STRIVE Collegiate Academy saw an opportunity to transform an underutilized portion of its campus into something more meaningful for students. Their vision was not simply to add outdoor amenities, but to create a space that would support how students learn, play, and gather throughout the school day.
Working within the constraints of an existing parking lot, the school reimagined the area as a multi-purpose outdoor environment designed to encourage movement, creativity, and connection. The design balances recreation and functionality, introducing dedicated spaces for sports and games, including basketball, volleyball, and four-square, while also creating flexible areas for outdoor learning and school gatherings.
Existing site elements were thoughtfully incorporated into the design, including a retaining wall that now supports programming opportunities and improved access throughout the space
More than just a playground, the project reflects STRIVE Collegiate Academy’s commitment to creating experiences that support the whole student. By turning previously unused space into a vibrant outdoor extension of the campus, the school has created an environment where students can be active, collaborate, and engage with one another beyond the classroom. The result is a dynamic space that supports both structured and informal activity while enhancing the overall student experience.
